What is a typical treatment like?

  • Assessment

In-depth physical assessment to understand what’s wrong, and why. Using contemporary tools and techniques, the assessment portion includes strength and movement testing to guide treatment and programming. Techniques include a combination of physical therapy assessments, FMS, ReConditioning Systems, and the usage of a Lafayette handheld dynamometer to accurately measure and track strength.

  • Treatment

The majority of the treatment is hands-on manual therapy work which includes; soft tissue release, massage, trigger point, fascial release, joint mobilizations, and active release type techniques. The clinician may also use tools like cupping therapy, muscle scraping, manual traction, and Voodoo Flossing.

  • Exercises

One of the major bonuses of getting treatment at Nelson Sport Lab, is the access to a full gym. After treatment, the clinician will take you through an individualized workout to guide the rehab process. From that workout, a home care program will be built, or a return appointment for treatment and workout will be established.

  • Home Care

Motivation for home care exercises is hard.. we get it… For this reason, we only give the most important exercises for home care, and once progress is made, we will work with you to write a full program for you to do at home, at your gym, or to work with Joey or Arthur at The Lab

  • What to wear

Since every session is different and involves movement, we ask you to come dressed for exercise. You will be clothed for the entirety of treatment. To help treatment, it is encouraged to wear shorts/spandex on the lower body, and a tank top/sports bra or loose-fitting shirt for the upper body

  • Coverage

Athletic Therapy is covered by All sport, Great West life, Greenshield, Empire, Hockey Canada and others. We can help talk to your provider to get Athletic Therapy added to your plan.
